What does it mean to be Financially Smart?

While people may have varied definitions, one element is the same for all - to possess the knowledge and confidence to make good decisions for you and your family.

Most of us have never been taught financially smart behavior.  We live in a world that promotes instant gratification – “why wait when you can have it now”.  Marketers encourage us to buy on impulse and spend increasing amounts on newer, faster, bigger, “better” (and more expensive) products with the promise that you’ll live more luxuriously or stress free.  That luxury feeling wears off soon after the bill arrives and this high spending lifestyle only increases one’s daily stress over finances.  Even worse, we tend to take on more debt to finance these purchases which consumes our hard earned money that could be used for future needs and retirement.

Consider these personal finance facts about Americans:

1.  55% of auto loans in 2005 were for longer than 60 months.
2.  A 2005 study of low and middle income households revealed that over 70% of the study
participants use credit cards to pay for regular monthly living expenses.
3.  22% of U.S. citizens have no money left after paying essential bills and descretionary
spending.  This is the highest percentage among 42 countries according to the survey.
4.  9 out of 10 affluent families will lose their fortune by the end of the third generation.
5.  41% of workers age 45-54 have less than $25,000 saved for retirement.

How well are you handling money and financial decisions?  Are there some areas where you could use some assistance?

We'll help you find the right balance of spending and saving for your situation so you can reduce stress and enjoy life.  And, with our unique blend of advice, coaching and education we'll help you make Financially Smart decisions now and forever!
